Mustard fish

(Shorshey Macch)

Ingredients

  • Fish: Rahu, 500 g cut in curry piece, marinated with turmeric & salt
  • Nigella (kalo jeera/ kalonji): 1/2 tsp
  • Mustard sauce: 3 tbsp white mustard seed + 1 tsp black mustard seed + 1 pinch salt + 1 or 2 green chillies. Grind them all together, add water to make it into a watery paste. The salt cuts the bitterness of the mustard.
  • Add I tbsp curd and a pinch of turmeric, mix and keep aside.
  • Mustard oil: 2 tbsp for frying the fish & 1 tbsp raw
  • Water: 300 ml

Method

Marnate the fish and keep aside for at least 10 minutes.

Meanwhile prepare the mustard sauce. In the same pan in which you fried the fish, sauté the nigella for a few seconds till fragrant, add the mustard sauce and sauté for a few seconds add the water and bring to boil.

Place the fish one at a timer and cook in simmer for 5/6 minutes. Transfer to a serving dish, sprinkle the raw mustard oil and garnish with slit green chillies and cilantro and serve with white rice.
